A Happy Healthy Hedonist

Strawberries may indicate the first signs of Summer approaching, but it is Watermelon the tells us that we are in the full bloom of Summer. The Egyptians have been cultivating and eating Watermelon since 4000 B.C. It grows on a vine, and is related to squash, cucumbers and pumpkins. Even if Watermelon is not organic it is one of the top fifteen healthiest and cleanest foods that can be eaten. As with tomatoes, it is a rich source of lycopene which is an antioxidant that is a cancer preventative.

Magnesium and potassium are plentiful, and so are the B 6 and 12,and a huge source of vitamin C. It is mostly comprised of water, rich nutrients and is a natural diuretic. Watermelon is good for pleasure and for weight loss. It is one of the best foods that a man can eat to prevent prostrate cancer. Aside from it's medicinal benefits there is nothing as thirst quenching on a hot Summer day, than mouth full of red and sometimes shocking pink flesh. It is delicious at room temperature, but can be refrigerated, but only for a couple of days.

Watermelon balances our electrolytes preventing muscle cramps, and is good for arthritic joints. So much of the soil that our food is grown in, is depleted of magnesium and so while enjoying the sweet succulent bites, we are replenishing one of the most important minerals for us to ingest. It is also a good food for asthmatics. While enjoying the juicy, sweet, fleshy fruit, no need to feel too guilty for your pleasure because for all of the details mentioned above, the pleasure will actually improve your health!
